Why are our Soles Red?

Like millions of women around the world, I was stricken with the Loub buzz. He has some sort of weakness over us females. His heels ooze sex appeal and make you feel that much more feminine. Although they are killer to walk in, we just can’t get enough! I am a great believer in not giving up on your dreams and I think Christian Louboutin is someone who also lives by that motto.

Christian was always intrigued by women’s footwear, and his love for footwear got him expelled from three schools for sketching on school tables and books. When he dropped out of school and interned at Folies Berger he fell in love with women’s footwear once again. He noticed the power of shoes’ and was inspired by the show girls he watched perform. Christian loved how heels ‘change and reshaped’ a woman’s body giving them a different body language, attitude and femininity.

Louboutin was stimulated by Roger Vivier’s invention of the stiletto and was determined to bring them back in fashion. After learning everything there is to know about shoe making he launched his own shoe studio in 1992. His mission was to ‘make a woman look sexy, beautiful, make her legs as long as they can’ (which he definitely does in those 12cm + heels).

Within no time Louboutins were known for their vibrant colours and striking designs. To Louboutin the most important part of a shoe is the ‘heel’, he doesn’t want you want run in them but instead be fascinated by their extreme appearance. The trademark red sole of his shoes (inspired by an employee’s nail varnish) along with the designs made them desirable by women everywhere. Anyone who is anyone was spotted in a pair of Loubs. They began to be sold in boutiques worldwide, seen on several catwalks (Yves Saint Laurent, Jonathan Saunders to throw that in there) and are a celebrity must buy!

Christian Louboutin’s journey is definitely encouraging. I mean that’s what you call hard-work and dedication, keeping your eyes on the prize. I’m not telling you to go out and leave your 9-5 tomorrow but I’m asking you to search deep in your soul and follow your dreams. Ask yourself, what am I passionate about? What do I want to pursue in life? I know our daily lives can be daunting but without hopes and dreams what do we actually have?

Great article! I don’t own any red soled shoes myself, but I appreciate them n the catwalk. They’re beautiful, but too pricey for me.

  2. I brought a pair back in Feb, I have yet to wear them. They look incredible while i am standing posing but I am a bit concerned about walking in them. I have to practice around the house. Yeah I like them but there plenty other designer shoes that are not only sexy but comfy, Try YSL
