1. The candy: Give me a bag of candy and I will make it disappear. I have a sweet tooth that is never satisfied.
2. I like dressing up: It is the one time of year I can be any of my many personalities and no one will institutionalize me.

As I was looking through the newspaper, I came across an insert for a Halloween Store. There I was looking at the costumes debating who I would like to be, when I decided to share something with Queen in Heels readers. I am going to tell you all which heels to wear with your costumes. Yes, I know that the Halloween stores have everything you need from the costume to the accessories. Yes, I know that many even have a small shoe section. However, my choices are so much better and you will wear these heels long after you have put away your costume. Seriously, does anyone ever wear their costume more than once?

Let me tell you, I was having so much fun, I could have found a pair of shoes for every costume in the store. However, I knew that by the time you scrolled down to the 50th costume you would have considered me ridiculous and a few other not so sweet names. So, I chose only 14 costumes and heels by 14 different designers. I will also tell you which one I want to be this year.

Little Bo Peep

I surmised that Little Bo Peep didn’t lose her sheep they left because they didn’t like the shoes on her feet.


Not to worry they all came back when they seen her walking around (looking very worried but cute) in her baby blue suede heels from Pollini.

Prisoner

Oh, so you are a tough girl. Really? Is that what you would like people to believe you were arrested for? I am sorry but, besides, a prostitution charge, I really can not believe you were arrested for being a kick-ass bad girl.


Every one knows that bad girls who kick-ass wear spikes on their stilettos like these ones from Ruthie Davis.

The King of Pop

I found these female versions of Michael Jackson costumes. I am sorry, if you are going to dress like the King please, respect his feet.


Michael Jackson wore penny loafers and unless you are were a pair like these ones from Pour La Victoire you are nothing but a impersonator. Oh, wait you still are however, the right shoes are mandatory.

Vampirette

This is for those of you on team Edward. (I prefer my man a little more wild *coughs Jacob coughs*)


If you are not wearing the red and black stilettos by Gainmarco Lorenzi please, go play in the sun. These heels are the ultimate blood sucking vixens weapon. I am sure any man will let you suck him dry if you are wearing these. (*side eyes myself*)

Nurse

Whether you are the good nurse, the bad nurse, or the naughty nurse you need the right wedges to work in.


These Yves Saint Laurent wedges are perfect for you Florence Nightingale wanna-bes. Actually, I think these white leather wedges were designed especially for those in the health care field.

Roman Goddess

Yes, every so often, I too like to show the world my inner greatness, (*whispers* really I am more Greek goddess) so, I understand your choice of costume.


However, since, I have to live among mortal man, I can not always wear leg wrap straps. Therefore, I have chosen the golden straps of Jimmy Choo for this costume.

Black Widow

I prefer the love them then, leave them method but hey, do you. If love them then kill them is working for you . . .


What else would the spider of death wear on her feet besides Christian Louboutin. I think it has something to do with the distinctive red marking.

Gladiator

Hold the lions, tigers, and bears. . uumm, excuse me, did you really just show up at the arena in a pair of cowboy boots?

I am sorry those boots totally are ruining the mood for this blood thirsty crowd. I am going to need you to wear these heels from Proenza Schouler. And if you survive maybe you can wear them out later to celebrate.

Card Girl

This is really a sweet costume, almost innocent if it were not for the gambling.

Okay, you can pretend you do not know what happens in Sin City if you like. However, everyone knows you have to shimmer and shine. So, for the naive girl in you, I have chosen Miu Miu glitter ankle boots. (Don’t worry what happens in . . .oh you know the rest)

Cave Woman

You went out did a little hunting then cam home and sewed up a little something. We women evolve so much faster than men.

Just let me make a small suggestion, leave the leg warmers at home. Yes, I know you want to carry the leopard print theme from head to toe. Please, just let Giuseppe Zanotti take care of the feet.

Mummy

After being forcefully abducted, wrapped, and shut in the tomb of a Pharaoh (the life of a concubine), you are back for your revenge.

Well, girl before you release the curse on us, take some of that treasure and get yourself a pair of boots from Givenchy.

Princess of Death

As the princess you are entitled to what ever you like, even if it is someone’s soul.




I have to admit it is a little eerie, that I chose Alexander McQueen for her, yet, I had to do so.




Now we are down to the final two costumes. These are the two that I really debated between. So, in second place . . .

The Mad Hatter

My love for Johnny Depp aside. . . .no, honestly, it is all about my boo.

I would totally have to wear these chameleon heels from Fendi. They complete this look perfectly. However, this costume did not win.
I have decided that I need to be . . .

DJ Lance

I had to black out his eyes because, he was not on the costume site, it was another guy. The problem was that all the guys wearing his costume had on white tennis shoes and I needed a picture of the shoes he wears. As, you can see they are orange and yellow.

After searching site after site, I almost gave up. Yes, I saw orange heels and I saw yellow heels, and I saw a combination of both. They were just not what I needed. I needed something that resembled his shoes. Then, I found a pair from Jessica Simpson. Are they not perfect? Unfortunately, I will not be wearing this costume or the heels because, I have no party to go to
Oh, well there is always next year.

When: Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 7 p.m. Line-up for those who want to be IN the Parade begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m.

Where: In New York’s Greenwich Village, on 6th Avenue South of Spring Street & above Canal right across from HERE Arts Center, the Halloween Parade’s Theatrical Home in NYC!

Parade and Party Tips:
* Try arriving AT LEAST, two hours before the 6:30pm start time in order to secure a good spot for viewing the parade.
* After the parade, the serious party-goers show off their costumes along Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. If you wish to hang-out, it is best to catch the parade in the nearby vicinity between 14th and Bleecker Street.

That is the perfect song to set the mood and kick start this contest off right.

Remember when that video premiered? It was an event. We all gathered around the television with friends and family and sat mesmerized the entire thirteen minutes. Afterwards, we released the breath we had been holding with a long very amazed, WOW and Michael Jackson . . .well, he conquered the music world.

I digress.

What contest? It’s the Queen in Heels Halloween Costume Contest . . . Haunting in Heels.

Why a Halloween Costume Contest?

The 80's

Have you ever played dress-up when you were a little girl?  Of course you have. Maybe you would raid your mother’s closet, put on one of her dresses and a pair of high heels, then parade around like a movie star. Some of you probably were lucky enough to have a costume wardrobe, filled with princess dresses and purses to take to tea parties with the teddy bears.

Now we are grown and we still love to play dress up. Thankfully, Halloween let’s us do so without drawing puzzled stares from our loved ones and co-workers.

Vampiress

Halloween allows the school teacher, by day, let out her inner rock star for a night. It allows the biker girl to wear white angel wings on her back and a silver halo on her head.

Dressing up is like putting on a new personality. How can one put on a blond wig and white dress and not feel her inner Marilyn Monroe emerge? Or put on that sweet fairy costume with a hint of sexy and not feel a tinge bit mischievous?

And here we are again, October, the month of dress-up and Halloween.

Have you decided who you are going to be this year?

There are so many possibilities and so many personalities to choose from.

What is a girl to do?

If you haven’t figured it out (or even if you have) here are a few tips:

Visctorian Pirate

* Avoid showing too much skin: The purpose of a costume is to dress up. If all you are wearing a bra, short shorts, and high heels . . . people will only think you want attention. And all attention isn’t good attention.

* Dressing up as a couple is fun: Make sure that you complement each other.

* Avoid bulky costumes: We don’t want you to knock over the drinks of those around you. And bumping into others all night is not fun for other guests or you.

* Indulge your fantasies: This is the perfect time of the year to allow yourself to lose yourself. If you have been secretly wishing you were a clown, well then girlfriend get that red nose.

* If you are dressing up and if high heels are a part of your costume: we want to see them.
