What is your deepest, darkest secret?
What if your secret was revealed?
What harm would it do? To you? To your reputation? To those you love?
Would it cause shock, heartbreak, or scandal? Would the one who loves you feel betrayed? Would it destroy the trust that others have in you? Could it even place your life in danger?
These are the questions that author Lakia McDaniel explores in her debut novel, Hidden Confessions.
The novel centers on Matthew, a former ladies man, who is set to marry the woman who has captured his heart, Lisa. However, after reuniting with some of his friends from the past, there are secrets revealed that will change the lives of Matthew and everyone around him.
Tell the readers about yourself.
I am a single mother of 3 wonderful children. I currently reside in Baltimore, MD, where I was born and raised. I am a lover of books and very passionate about writing. I consider intellectual conversation fun. I also, love to travel and I am hoping to do more of it this upcoming year.
I have been writing since childhood, but it wasn’t until about 3 or 4 years ago, that I really became more serious about it. Hidden Confessions is my debut novel. I am really excited about it.
What inspired you to write your debut novel?
My crazy imagination! I love being able to shock people with my stories. That is what I am hoping to accomplish with this story. Hidden Confessions has many twists and turns, that will capture readers and keep them intrigued to the very end.
How did you come up with the title?
It definitely goes along with the story. It reflects the secrets that are revealed in the storylines about many of the characters.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part of writing my writing my book was developing the characters and the roles they play in each other’s lives.
Do you have any advice for other aspiring writers?
NEVER GIVE UP!!
Who are some of your favorite female authors?
I have two. Danielle Steele and Terry McMillian.
Which women (personally, professionally, or famous) have influenced your life?
Only personally. My mom. She has been through a lot in her life, even now, and she continues to remain strong.
