1. Tell readers about yourself
My name is LaTrice Black and I’m twenty-seven years old. I currently live in Atlanta, GA but I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. I attended Tennessee State University where I obtained a B.S in psychology.
2. Why did you name your jewelry line Garbach?
One of my first pieces I ever designed was called the “Ring on It Necklace”, which consisted of different rings and other jewelry findings. A co-worker saw the necklace and said it looked like a lot of garbage around my neck to which I replied, “Well if this is what garbage looks like then I want it!” So, I changed the spelling and named my jewelry line Garbach.
3. Where do you draw your inspiration from when designing?
I draw inspiration from everywhere. I could see a painting of some sort and get really inspired to create. Looking in magazines, past fashion eras, being outside and enjoying nature. I really draw inspiration from seeing people on the street and their style.
4. What can readers expect from Garbach in the future?
In the future people can expect to see Garbach being used in more photo shoots and print ads. And also expect to see Garbach on the runways of all major fashion shows.
5. Are there any other projects that you’re working on?
I currently just wrapped up a photo shoot where I provided jewelry for a local Atlanta designer. I have pictures of the shoot on my website. I was recently was asked by a hosting company to provide jewelry for a photo shoot, so I’ll be working on that shortly.
6. Which woman/women (personally, professionally, or famous) have influenced you?
My mom has really influenced me a lot with being a jewelry designer. She’s told me my whole life that I was creative and can be anything I put my mind to. I also admire women like Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Ms. Fabulosity, Kimora Lee Simmons who have built incredible brands for themselves. These women define the word superwomen, being a mommy and a mogul, all the things I aspire to be.
7. As a woman entrepreneur, what advice do you have for other woman starting a business?
Be in love with what you’re doing. Ask yourself if you never made another dime, would you still want to do this? When you’re passionate about what you are doing and believe in yourself it will show. If you do not believe in yourself, how can you expect others to believe in what you do.
