Spring has arrived (happy happy joy joy). Well, you know what Spring means? It means that we get to wear open toe heels. You know what open toe sandals mean?
A pedicure (Let’s keep it real . . . some of you really need one. There is nothing worse then looking down at a pair of hot high heels and see ten raggedy toes and dry cracked heels inside them).
So, ladies head over to your nearest nail salon and get those toes done.
For those of you who prefer to do it yourself, here are a few simple steps and tips to achieve a professional pedicure in an hour.
What you will need:
* nail remover
* cotton balls
* foot bath/ large flat bottom bowl
* nail file
* toe clippers
* towels
* foot cream
* foot scrub
* cuticle remover
* cuticle pusher/orange wood stick
* foot file/pumice stone
* nail polish
Before you begin:
Tip 1: Alcohol and acetone free removers are less drying, but don’t work as well especially, on dark shades of polish.
Tip 2: Avoid metal nail files. These files rip your nails.
Tip 3: There are two sides of a nail file. The side with the fine grade is for smoothing. The coarser surface is for shortening and shaping nails.
Tip 4: If you have stained nails try rubbing whitening toothpaste or denture cleaners on them.
Let’s Begin:
Step 1: Thoroughly remove old nail polish.
Step 2: Cut and file nails: To avoid ingrown nails, cut the nails straight across. Always file your nails in one direction until they are even and slightly rounded at the corners, to achieve a soft square shape.
Step 3: Soak your feet: 10 -15 minutes in warm water.
Step 4: Trim (push back) cuticles: Please use caution. Apply cuticle remover and allow to sit as long as the directions read. Use an orange wood stick to gently push the cuticles back.
Step 5: Scrub feet: Use foot scrub with either a foot file or pumice stone to slough away the dead skin on the balls and heels of your feet.
Step 6: Moisturize: After you have dried your feet thoroughly (do not forget between the toes), rub on a foot cream.
Step 7: Polish: First apply a thin base coat. After a minute apply two coats of your desired nail color (allow to dry in between coats).
That’s it. After the nail polish has dried, pull out a pair of open toe heels and show off your toes.
