About

If you look up the word “power” in the dictionary you will come across many definitions. One definition that has always stuck with me is power being defined as “the ability to control one’s own fate”. Throughout the ages, there has always been one or more grouping of people within the world’s societies vying to control their own fate, working to maintain the control that they currently held or fighting off threats to that control.

In other words, there has always been a pursuit for power, an effort to manage the power already in place or a fight to protect the power that one deems as rightfully theirs. One of the most enduring and wide-ranging pursuits for power, is that of women as a social group, attempting to control their own fate both as a group and on an individual basis. The unique thing about women’s pursuit of power as compared to other groups is, that depending on the time, the location and/or the culture, women have been fighting for their power across different fronts and against different threats simultaneously. However, unlike in the past, technology and changes in gender dynamics in key societies now allow women to work towards having a united front and contributing to the fight of other women across the miles either directly or indirectly.

In many parts of the world, women have been fighting for the ability to control their own fate both through the obtainment of basic civil rights and in their personal lives. Over the past four decades, that movement of women empowerment has made great strides in a very short period of time in such places while at the same time the plight of women in other locales haven’t been afforded the same success. The purpose of this website is based on the recognition that despite these great successes, our unified struggle to define and control our own fate is far from over. The call to participate and stay conscious of this struggle is even more important now given that the successes over the past 40 years have granted us the ability to break free from gender-role profiles and become women who walk different paths, hold varying views and define our world in our own terms in different ways. That ability to exercise freedom of choice and individuality increases the risk that we lose sight of the things we have in common and our common bonds.

Accordingly, this website is meant to do the following things:

· Help contribute to raising awareness that movement for empowerment is not over

· Help us recognize our common bonds while we celebrate the freedom that is our individuality

· Help facilitate communication amongst us and about us while doing so with our own voice

In order to achieve those objectives, we at Queen in Heels, chose to use heels and fashion to spark that dialogue through the creative weaving of our shared appreciation for heels and our path towards empowerment.

Why choose heels? On its surface, the answer is simple, we just love high heels. However there is more to our choice. High heels represent women. They represent the power and beauty all women posses. They represent the rights and freedoms we all possess when it comes to our bodies and lives. They represent the journey we are all on.

We keep on going forward, conquering all obstacles and gaining new grounds. We are divas. We are Goddesses. We are Queens.

Through this site we will highlight:
*** Woman of all walks of life and the heels they are walking in
*** Heel designers
*** Issues that are important to women, and
*** Heels in general!
