6 Places to Avoid the Single Girl Isolation Blues

artist: unknown

Being a single woman, even one with children, one can begin to feel a little lonely. When life becomes the constant routine of work then home, for some women, this means that the ‘Isolation Blues’ can take hold. We begin to find ourselves spending evenings, days, and weekends alone. Unlike the Winter Blues (that may set in after Christmas and during the long winter days) the ‘Isolation Blues’ can happen any time of the year. It may begin because of the need to rest after spending long days at work and soon, but, before you know it, being home alone with nothing to do or nowhere to go, becomes a way of life. Isolation is not only a danger to our minds (and dreams), it can break our spirit so, here are five empowering options, that will get you out of the house, meeting new people, and who knows, you may even find a date.

Join a book club:  Joining a book club is not only a way to keep up on all the latest books hitting the shelves; it is a great way to exchange point of views with others. To find a book club near you, the best place to begin, is the local library. Also, try local bookstores.
If you cannot find a book club or one you are interested in . . . start one yourself. To find participants ask co-workers, members of your church, or advertise with fliers and post them at the library, bookstores, and cafes. You can even, use social media sites, such as, Twitter or Facebook to spread the word. Other things to consider are: Regular meeting time and place, establish ground rules, who will host, what is provided (meal), picking of the book and how books are chosen.

Take a class:  Local community colleges usually offer non-credit courses that are great for learning something new and useful. I have taken classes to learn HTML, Excel, self-publishing, and got my certificate in event planning. By taking classes, you not only, learn something new, you also meet like-minded people, who can become valuable contacts in the future.

Craft/sewing stores:  Both stores usually offer evening or weekend classes or workshops. The great thing about these types of classes is they are fun-filled. Also, there are many crafters/sewers that have turned their hobbies into profitable side businesses.

The Gym:  Going to the gym not only provides a way to get out of the house, it gets you moving and in shape.

Volunteer:  Volunteering is not only a way to get out of the house and meet new people; it provides a chance to give back to your community. Check with churches, food banks, animal shelters, and charity organizations for volunteer opportunities.

Workshops:  Workshops are normally a one day event that focuses on one particular thing, such as: self- help, business, or finances. They are good for learning, meeting new people, it also provides the information you need to empower yourself.

There you have the 6 Places to go to avoid the ‘Isolation Blues’. Many of these options are pocketbook friendly since, they are low cost or even free. AND all of them offer something more than just a reason to get out of the house. If you have any other suggestions share it in the comments.

Oh boy do I agree with this one, getting out is key. My older sister is single & sometimes I try to make her get out & do things but she is so stubborn. Sometimes you almost have to force yourself to go & before you know it, you are having a good time… I’m trying to drag my sis out Wednesday night.
