When looking at the latest fashion (or footwear) collections, I sometimes wonder why the designer chose those colors, that material, or that style. What was the inspiration behind the designs?

It does not matter what the end result is: a fashion collection, a piece of art, a book, a song, or a blog post there is always something that has inspired it.
Inspiration can be found all around us (and even within ourselves).
Here are some of the usual and not so usual ways I have been inspired.
Walks: This is how many people will say that they have been inspired. That is true for me also, a long walk is always the most inspiring. Many, if not most, of the ideas I have come up with were while taking a nice long walk. It is as if walking clears my mind and allows my thoughts to flow like spring water.
Reality Television:No, it is what you think. I have never found inspiration in watching an episode of Jersey Shore, Real Housewives any franchise, or Celebrity lives shows. As a matter-of-fact, I tend to lose a few brain cells watching those types of reality shows (but, sometimes watching mindless television is fun and necessary when stressed). However, one of my favorite reality shows is “Selling New York”. For those who are not familiar with the show, it airs on HGTV and features real estate brokers from three Manhattan real estate companies (Gumley Haft Kleier, CORE, and Warburg) who sell prime real estate in NYC. When I watch this show and behold the beautiful 5.5 million dollar apartments of Manhattan, I am inspired to revisit my business plans. I dream of the day when I too will be in search of my perfect 3 bedroom, 2 ½ bathroom home in Manhattan’s skyline.
Dreams: “It just came to me in a dream.” Have you ever heard someone make that statement? Well, I will tell you it does happen. I can have the most bizarre dream that makes absolutely no sense but, somehow someway it inspires an idea.
Celebrities: While I like quite a few celebrities for their looks, movies, songs; I am a true admirer of few. There are a few celebrities that are truly inspiring. I am particularly inspired by those who have come from destitute backgrounds and did not allow that to hinder them. I am also inspired by those who are just driven and determine to be the best and do not display the ugly attitude that may come with being the best. One who I absolutely admire and love is Beyonce. Some love her, some dislike, some are fans of her music, and some are fans of her beauty. I am a fan of her music, her beauty, and her stage presence but what I am most inspired by her work ethic and drive. Every time, I watch a documentary on her, I am more inspired to get my “Bey” on (my business alter ego . . . . plus her shoe game is A++).

Music: I think everyone is inspired to write, paint, draw, design, dance, exercise, plan, dream, and the list goes on when they hear their favorite song.
High heels: No, I am not just saying this because this is a site where heels are discussed; I have actually been inspired by my shoe closet (and thoughts of a gentleman friend) to pen an erotic little piece called, “Shoe Love” (it’s pretty good if I may say so). When I am writing various stories (or scripts) I always look to high heels to come up with the characters personality. For me, high heels not only have personality they also, have the power to change personalities. A meek woman into a vixen and a bad girl into a CEO. Of course, I could not end this paragraph without mentioning how high heels have inspired the “birth” Queen in Heels
Love this post. I’m often inspired by young kids – not the tweens – but even younger – they don’t know “the rules” yet – they do what they like. They wear what feels good – winter boots with a bathing suit… if that’s what they decide. And it makes me question the norms and reminds me that individuality really IS ok.

LOL @ loosing brain cells from watching snooki and friends! They are a necessary evil in my life. Music is the biggest form of inspiration to me but your high heel inspiration is quite unique.

I enjoyed reading this. How true! Inspiration comes from somewhere & often times we don’t even realize the origin. And yes, people dream ideas. Sometimes I come out of a dream & have to write down ideas on paper… GREAT post!!!!
