The spring/summer 2010 collection of Beatrix Ong has ignited our excitement. It is not the collection itself – that has us scouring the web (and the library) – for all the information we can find; it is the inspiration behind the collection.
Wait! Do not get us wrong.
We love Beatrix Ong and her footwear collection. We have been fans (of Beatrix) since she launched her label in 2002. Her designs are classic however, she always adds a touch of whimsy into each of her collections. The 2010 spring/summer collection is a prime example of this.
The palate (of her 2010 spring/summer collection) is drawn from the works of the early Renaissance Florentine master, Sandro Botticelli (he is also known for his paintings of those- who have inspired Ong for this collection). The colors are off white, tan, and champagne with accents of red, turquoise, and yellow. Materials used to create the shoes are soft Italian leathers, metallic linens, and satin. She also used origami to help tell the story of the theme.
What has inspired Ong’s theme and ignited our excitement?
Beatrix Ong’s inspiration came from ancient mythology, in particular the Goddesses of ancient mythology.
Now do you understand the excitement? We love Goddesses just as much as we love heels.
Goddesses are women who are strong and wise. They are mothers and caregivers. They are warriors and conquerors. They are sensual, seductive, and understand the power that lies in their beauty and bodies. They are fallible yet, inspiring.
Valli
(Hindu Goddess)
represents the power of asprirations:
Leda
(Greek Goddess)
admired by Zeus, who seduced her in the quise of a swan:
Venus
(Roman Goddess)
associated with love, beauty, and fertility
(she was born from a shell):
The heels range in price from $498.00 to $795.00
Here are a few others from the collection (not all the shoes are named after Goddesses -only terms from mythology).
