Year 2009 in Review/Designer Campaigns

Designers fill magazines, billboards and their websites with them. They are creative, thought provoking, enticing and sometimes downright bizarre. They are filled with beautiful models adorned in the luxurious pieces of designer collections. That, of which we are referring, are the marketing campaigns the design houses bring us each season.

Today, we are recapping our favorite campaigns of 2009,and the top photo from each, that captured our intrigue during the year.

10. Michael Kors:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. It is a continuation of the spring/summer 2009-campaign theme. The campaign focused on our obsession with the lives of celebrities as shot from the view of the ever- present paparazzi.

Why we love this photo: Each of us has probably fantasized of what it would be like to strut pass admiring fans screaming our names, asking for autographs with cameras flashing away. It’s the sexy confidence in her stride.

9. Salvatore Ferragamo:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. A day in the park seemed to be the theme for the campaign.

Why we love this photo: It is the striking contrast between the rich scarlet and the greenery of the park.

8. Gucci:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. The campaign had a disco party feel to it.

Why we love this photo: The heels- 4.1 inch heel and 1 ¾ platform. Powerful.

7. Prada:

The above photo was chosen from the Spring/Summer 2009 campaign. Inspiration for this campaign was from the ancient stone bas-reliefs sculpted into Greek, Egypt, and Roman walls, tombs, and columns.

Why we love this photo: The gold drew our attention along with those amazing high heels. How fitting it is to depict the abilities we have to navigate through our hectic lives in five- inch heels and engrave it on a wall as a testament of how we have left a mark on and legacy within our current-day civilization. What we have accomplished in our time regarding empowerment and freedom, has never been achieved in all of woman and man-kind. It shows just how strong and impactful we are as women in regards to both our own direction and the larger society as a whole.

6. Balenciagia:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. It featured actress Jennifer Connelly as the muse for the campaign.

Why we love this photo: The highlight of the photo, the drape booties on her feet. We love those heels. The overall photo is dark, heavy, complex, tension, conflicted, leaden. Her clothing and her heels are rather pristine and well placed. Her hair is not. Maybe the message is making agony look good. Or maybe it is that, all the dressing up in the world can’t conceal agony…or maybe she is tired from looking for her brush in the couch and sheets and she flopped on the couch.

5. Agent Provocateur:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. Drawn out as a comic book, the campaign featured superwomen from the group, The Agent Provocateur Elite Xemplar. These women are all genetically different and ready for action.

Why we love this photo: It speaks to our power unleashed and impervious to confinement.

4. Fendi:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. The campaign’s photos have model Jessica Stam outside in the fog, wearing accessories from the collection.

Why we love this photo: Those ankle boots are sharp. We don’t know how many times we have laid down on our beds and lifted our legs to admire the fierce heels we were wearing on our feet. Bring in the fog and this is one sexy picture.

3. Dior:

The above photo was chosen from The Lady Noire Affair Campaign. It was a campaign that was inspired by the films of Hitchcock and starred Marion Cotillard. There were short films released on the website filled with intrigue and suspense. Updates of the drama being played out in the streets of Paris were provided to Lady Dior followers on Twitter on a daily basis. At its conclusion, the mystery was revealed and campaign came to a close.

Why we like this photo: The danger she is in. We love how fabulous Cotillard looks even when in danger. It draws us further into the story. It makes one wonder what is it that is happening? How did she find herself in this predicament?

2. Jean Paul Gaultier:

The above photo was chosen from the Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. It showcases model Raquel Zimmerman playing both the female model and her male counterpart and the entire campaign was shot in black and white.

Why we love this photo: Raquel effortlessly pulls off displaying her feminine mystic while beautifully showing her masculine side. It directly targets the changing notion of what constitutes a typical gender role, if anything does at all. We as women wear so many hats…and pants…and shoes.

1. Christian Louboutin:

The above photo was chosen from the joint collaboration between designer Christian Louboutin and still–life photographer Peter Lipmann. The shoes from Christian Louboutin are displayed in various pieces of 18th century artwork.

Why we love this photo: It was actually so hard to choose just one. Each and every picture is a beautiful breath-taking piece of art.
