It is that time of the year when many of us will begin the task of reflecting over the passing year and deciding what resolutions we should make for the upcoming year.
Some of us will decide it would be best if we make changes with or within ourselves. Some of us will want to implement goals that will help us better our current circumstances. Others of us will have a list that combines both.
Wait!!
Before any of you begin. Let’s try an exercise first.
It’s called . . .

The Thirty Compliments Challenge
Yes, before you sit down to decide what you would like to change about yourself, and before you make those plans to obtain a better life (not that either of these objectives are a bad thing), we here at QinH first want you to remember and recognize those things that make you wonderful right now.
Sometimes, the easiest thing for us to do is criticize ourselves. However, when it comes to giving ourselves praise and compliments we believe that we can’t, or we just don’t, do so. For example, one might say, “I love my eyes, but not my nose”, or “I like my smile as long as I don’t show my teeth.
You see the pattern? We are oftentimes our own worst critics.
So, here is the challenge. Grab a pen, a notebook, piece of paper, or journal, and gather yourself somewhere comfortable where you can sit and concentrate.
Now, list 30 compliments about yourself to yourself. It doesn’t matter how shallow, egotistical, and narcissistic the compliment may be. If you have a beautiful smile, then write, “I have a beautiful smile.” If you love the width of your hips, then write, “I love the width of my hips.” If you are good at something, write it down. If you have other wonderful qualities then write them down. This list should span both physical and non-physical attributes that you love about yourself and remember to say the strength words of “love” or “adore” where possible.
Please, write only the compliment. No if, buts, excepts, or other qualifiers needed.
If by chance you are drawing a blank or find yourself in need of some inspiration, try this suggestion.
Go to your closet and pull out your favorite high heels. You know the ones. The ones that make you feel like a rock star goddess who is about to step out onto the stage and have the entire world gawking with admiration yet envious stares. You know those high heels that have you strutting into a room full of people with the “Yes it’s really me people. You all may now begin to breath again.” type of attitude. You know those high heels that will make her, her, him, and all of them over there; go into a fascination-induced stupor as they watch you walk across the room.
Yes, ladies pull out those high heels.
We all have a pair or two or more of those self-esteem boosting heels.
After you have slid them on your feet, find a mirror (as if the power they send surging through your body is not enough) and now say it to yourself . . .
Yes, we concur, you do look marvelous.
Find your pen and paper and let those compliments flow. Remember to keep on your heels on as you write, if need be. And leave us a comment here, facebook, twitter or myspace telling us one or more of the compliments you gave yourself. We would love to see them.
Additionally, If you want to go an extra step, think of a friend, mother, sister Queen in Heels that you know and submit a compliment about them and in dedication to them.
